The Gerund (verb + ing)
Verbs ending in -ing and having the features of a noun and a verb are called Gerunds.
In sentence 1, the gerund walking , like a noun, is the subject of the verb.
In sentence 2, the gerund reading, like a noun, is the object of the verb like. Also, like a verb, it also has an object newspapers, which shows that it has the force of a verb.
The "-ing" form is used after a preposition The preposition in the following example sentence :
